Plant-based raw materials play a significant role in the processing of pet food, especially in the extrusion process. Their composition and properties directly affect the texture, nutrition and palatability of the product.
In the extrusion process, the starch, protein and fiber contents of different plant raw materials have a significant impact on the extrusion effect and product quality: Sweet potato has a high starch content, which forms a stable starch matrix during extrusion, improving the product structure and sensory properties, and is rich in dietary fiber, which is beneficial for digestion; The edible part of cassava has a high proportion, and the functional characteristics after extrusion are good, suitable for pet food formulas without grains; Peas have high protein and starch content, with high digestibility and few allergies, which can enhance the nutritional value of the product.
Although the fiber raw materials cannot be expanded, they are crucial for the product's texture and health benefits: cassava fiber, citrus fiber, etc. can improve water retention capacity and particle structure (for example, cassava fiber makes the cell structure more uniform, and citrus fiber enhances the internal porosity of the particles). They not only optimize the expansion effect but also provide the necessary dietary fiber for pets.
Overall, plant-based raw materials, with their unique chemical components and functional properties, offer diverse solutions for pet food extrusion processes, driving industry innovation and development and providing healthier and more efficient production options.
