The on-site observation seminar of Zhongke Leymus chinensis was successfully held in Dongying, Shandong!

In order to speed up the breeding and promotion of Leymus chinensis in Shandong, better serve the development of animal husbandry, and promote the transformation and application of research results, the project team decided to hold the "Chinese Leymus chinensis field observation seminar" in Dongying on May 17, 2022. The seminar was co sponsored by Shandong Working Group of Zhongke Leymus chinensis Breeding and Promotion Project, Horun (Dongying) Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd. and Qingdao CTC Feed Co., Ltd.

Leaders at all levels participating in this observation activity included Tong Boqiang, deputy director of Shandong Forestry and Grass Germplasm Resources Center, Zhai Guiyu, researcher of Shandong Animal Husbandry General Station, Wang Guoliang, researcher of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Xu Hualing, director of Institute of Halophytes of Dongying Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and more than 20 professionals from more than 10 scientific research institutions and institutions across the country.

Participants visited the Chinese Leymus chinensis planting demonstration base in Xinhu Town, Hekou District, fully understood the planting mode of Chinese Leymus chinensis, and tested the Chinese Leymus chinensis on site

"Leymus chinensis", commonly known as alkaline grass in the north, is a key grass species in Eurasia. It is also a dominant perennial native grass widely distributed in the north of China. Leymus chinensis in the middle family is resistant to salt and alkali. It has shown great development potential in water conservation, water and soil conservation, wind prevention and sand fixation, grassland restoration and other fields.

At the seminar, Wang Chengwu, chairman of Shandong Dairy Association, made a simple analysis of the current roughage supply situation, and pointed out that with the increase of enterprises around Shandong and the expansion of animal husbandry groups, it is imperative to accelerate the breeding and promotion of Leymus chinensis in Shandong.

Peng Wenbo, the chairman of Horun (Dongying) Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd., introduced the current planting situation of Leymus chinensis. After two years of development, more than 2000 mu of Leymus chinensis has been planted. In addition to being directly used as forage, Leymus chinensis can also be further processed into different forms of high-quality feed. Moreover, because of its strong penetration of roots and stems, it plays a great role in soil fixation and is a good water and soil conservation plant, Chairman Peng Wenbo is full of confidence in the late breeding and promotion of Leymus chinensis.

The seminar also connected with researcher Liu Gongshe on the spot, who reviewed a series of R&D achievements of Leymus chinensis in the past 30 years, especially the cultivation of six varieties. Professor Liu said that after years of hard work, Leymus chinensis has ushered in new development opportunities, which has been highly valued by relevant national business authorities. It is suggested that ecological restoration give priority to planting Leymus chinensis, which can give consideration to both ecological and economic benefits. At the seminar, researcher Liu Commune also shared the latest information of Leymus chinensis to support the follow-up breeding and promotion of Leymus chinensis.

Mr. Zhang Zhimin, the general coordinator of the Chinese Leymus chinensis breeding and promotion working group, made a report on the work of the working group at the meeting and published his experience in participating in the Chinese Leymus chinensis promotion:

1. Shandong Dairy Association has actively participated in the publicity, breeding and promotion of Leymus chinensis since the beginning of its work in Shandong.

2. Chinese Leymus chinensis grew from scratch, from small to large, our professional team and technical experts grew from few to many, and the participation of many enterprises and scientific research institutions increased the impetus for us to promote Chinese Leymus chinensis in Shandong next step.

3. The industrialization of Leymus chinensis in Shandong has taken shape, and will gradually form an industrial chain from seed breeding, planting, technology, management, processing and sales in the future.

Ms. Zhang Hong, Deputy General Manager of Qingdao CTC Feed Co., Ltd., made a simple analysis of the prospects of Chinese Leymus chinensis based on the experience of imported forage and various indicators of Chinese Leymus chinensis, and shared the experience summarized by doing imported forage:

The imported herbage has indeed improved the development of China's aquaculture industry and the health of cultured species; Through the import of herbage, the country knows what the best grass in the world is, how it is planted, how it is stored, transported, fed, and what to pay attention to in the process of feeding. At the same time, a group of experts are introduced through the import of herbage for technical guidance.

Through data comparison, all important indicators of Leymus chinensis have reached the standard of imported forage, and the high standard planting of Leymus chinensis has played an important role in realizing the localization of high-quality forage.

At the same time, President Zhang proposed that the Chinese Leymus chinensis could be standardized according to different indicators according to the standards of foreign forages, and sold by batch, so that the value of Chinese Leymus chinensis could be better realized.

Through this seminar, the leaders participating in the seminar and the heads of enterprises raised relevant issues and discussed the breeding and promotion of Leymus chinensis. The exchange of experience among enterprises will help promote the targeted adjustment of work ideas and solve relevant problems in the next step of promotion of Leymus chinensis.
